Matt Damon Bows Out from Bourne

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Hollywood actor Matt Damon bows out of the Jason Bourne franchise by turning down the post of Jason Bourne’s voice actor. His reason? The game was too violent for his taste.

Jason Bourne no more

This is funny considering how his portrayal of Ludlum’s hard-hitting action man was anything but a grass-eating, peace-loving pacifist. The idea behind Jason Bourne was that he could break skulls with his bare hands, something like a ninja would except there’d be more blood and brute force involved, which was something the actor had pulled off convincingly well.

Matt’s explanation: while he didn’t much mind violence in films that catered to a mostly adult clientele, video games that kids could access were a different story.

While that makes sense somehow, there’s just something that seems odd about the fact.

A Look at Valkyria Chronicles

Friday, April 25th, 2008

The PS3 seems to be starting to get its game up with the up-coming big hitter releases such as GTA4, MGS4 and Gran Tourismo 5 Prologue. However, overshadowing these releases is an announced Strategy Role Playing title, surprisingly developed by SEGA and is exclusive to the PS3, Valkyria Chronicles.

The story seems to be set during an alternate time-line in some European war. I’ll be looking forward to this game since not because I’m a strategy and RPG fan but also an Anime Otaku. The game contains beautiful cell-shaded graphics. Character detail looks as if you are watching an Anime show.

PS3 owners (like me), would surely welcome another much needed RPG for our beloved console. The game has just been released in Japan and will be soon released on the third quarter of 2008 of the United States.

The Indestructable Tank

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

In the long list of games designed to waste your time, very few games stand out as much as Indestructo Tank, one of the most addicting flash games ever since The Crimson Room was created. Now, this is a pretty old flash game designed by Armor Games, and spawned related titles such as Indestruc2 Tank and IndestructoCopter.

The game’s basic premise is simple: you’re a tank that can’t be destroyed. Unfortunately, you also don’t have any weapons, and you tend to run out of gas pretty fast. So you kill enemies via the extra hard shell of your tank. How you go about the process is the interesting part.

Here’s the latest version of the game, entitled Indestructo Tank AE:

The best thing about this game is its similarity to old, pointless games like Galaga or even Battle City. It amazes me how such a simple concept can become so viral and enticing even in this day and age of awesome graphics and convoluted storylines.

Game is best played while bored. Seriously.

The flash game was grabbed from Newgrounds. Copyright props to them and to Armor Games for this amazing little piece of multimedia.

World of Warcraft Hits the Big Screen?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

At least, that’s the word from the grapevine. Last 2006, Blizzard announced that it had big plans of turning its hit MMORPG into a fantasy classic along the lines of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings, in an attempt to dredge the entire game-to-film section of the film industry out of the slum pit that it has unfortunately descended into.

Super Mario Fusion No More

Monday, April 21st, 2008

That’s because Super Mario Fusion has been renamed by the team behind its development. The videos of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion (its new name) are playing smoother than ever now, but that isn’t all that has been added by Judgespear2 and his crew (yes he has a crew now). A small team of other playable characters from across the platform gaming universe is now available for your perusal, although just how developed these characters are as of the present build remains in question.

NAMCO’s Newest Tale

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I stumbled upon this trailer earlier today, and went into a fit of school girl giggly-gushing:

While I’m not what you’d call a full-on fan of the Tales series of games, but what I’ve played, I enjoyed (these games would be Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia).

What I find most intriguing about Tales of Vesperia, though is the quality of the visuals. The animation and CGI is just so unbelievably pretty that I felt like I was watching an animated short throughout the trailer. It didn’t hurt that the level of character design, while it sports the stereotypical looks one would expect from your average anime, isn’t half bad.

The battle system looks pretty good, too, although you can’t really say anything concretely just by watching something that isn’t even a hundred percent complete. And while most people have come to terms with the fact that English voice actors just aren’t as successful as their Japanese counterparts, this game just might be able to pull it off decently (although you can still hear some of that evil nasal hiss of death that just kills the emotion for most voice actors, so that’s a point of contention).

Tales of Vesperia is slated to hit the shelves sometime during the fourth quarter of 2008. As of now, the game is available exclusively for the Xbox 360.
