Prince of Persia: The Remake?

Friday, May 30th, 2008

It was a big surprise when Ubisoft announced that they will do a remake of Prince of Persia. They promised that it will no longer have the “time” theme embedded into it and that they will expand its universe to avenues that have not been conjured in its past titles.

More surprising is the annoucement of some “Assassin’s Creed” elements into it, which has raised the brows of many fans. Does this mean they’re going into the open world aspect? Will it have awesome side quests that compliment the main story?

One thing is for sure, the trailer looks dazzling. Lets hope we have the Assassin’s Creed’s gameplay and all the epicness of the past Prince of Persia titles rolled into one.

So Square-Enix DID Lose Money

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Check out this article from Gapespot outlining Square-Enix’s summary of earnings for the fiscal year of 2007. Did I call it or what? Squenix did lose a hefty chunk from probable earnings. That’s considering they released some awesome titles this past year, Crisis Core and the DS port of Dragon Quest IV being some of them.

It’s curious, though, that  they’d rout their losses with gains from the miscellaneous arm of the corporation - from the Dragon Quest trading card game, no less.

With big titles looming in the horizon, though, Squenix is being uncharacteristically optimistic - after all, they are banking on DQIX and Final Fantasy XIII, which are both enormous titles. But you know what they say - don’t count your chickens until they hatch. 2008 might hold some pretty exciting things for Squenix, but there’s always an element of surprise that could turn the tables on everything they have planned for the public.

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

RF Online, a premier Korean MMORPG which has been praised by other MMO developers has recently come under fire, particularly in the Philippine Servers of Level Up Games. Sources tell us that in the past weekend, hackers, or to be more precise, script-kiddies used third party programs to manipulate and/or destroy the game’s economy.

Ten Rules of Action Games

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Here is a rather sarcastic (therefore awesome) list of things that people should expect to see from most, if not all, action games that populate the market today. If nothing else, read it for that reference to musclebound male characters with enormous guns that they don’t end up using much, anyway:

That big, phallic feeling

I have to say that I personally like some of the items. I mean, I definitely hate escort missions (Iron Man for the PSP, I’m looking at you), serious storylines without any saving graces absolutely horrify me (I still can’t help laughing at some of the Syphon Filter dialogues), and I still don’t understand the need for special editions, since it’s just additional merchandising (although some people do get kicks out of buying more merch, so I guess it’s forgivable).

And of course, who’d want to play a game that doesn’t innovate at all? Of course, there can be too much innovation (Iron Man for the PSP, I’m looking at you again), but see, that’s where games like Vagrant Story and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time really stood out.

All in all, it’s a pretty fun list that’s snooty enough to be a classic, and anybody who’s had trouble with an action game at some point during his gaming life should be able to find something to relate with in this list.

Tails in MKF

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

MKF refers to the development project that I’ve adopted as my own pet, Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, just to clear up any confusion.

The last character I featured was Sonic; this time, they’ve thrown in Tails, everybody’s favorite two-tailed fox, into the mix. Here’s a video of him in action in one of the newer MKF levels that JudgeSpear and his crew are calling the Corpse of The Behemoth:

Cutting Losses

Monday, May 26th, 2008

That’s what Square Enix is doing, at least from what head honcho Yoichi Wada said during the company’s shareholder conference the other week. And let me warn readers that this will be a heavily speculative article, so don’t expect anything concrete from what you’re about to read.
