Sony’s E3 Conference 2008: Just the beginning

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Not to sound too fanboy-ish but Sony had a great theme going. Unlike what Nintendo and Microsoft’s conferences, they did not concentrate on saying how good or better they are than the competition. As ZeroTolerance from the N4G Podcast says, "They’ve been talking about the games," and that is a good thing. For once Sony wasn’t boasting about how powerful the Cell is. For once they truly concentrated on what gamers want, just the games.

Microsoft’s E3 Conference 2008: Media Powerhouse

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Microsoft turned in a pretty interesting conference this year. I was hoping that they would emphasize on their current hit titles. Everyone was hoping for another epic Halo. But I myself was blown away when I saw Microsoft’s new direction. While not forgetting its core franchises, they’ve jumped into new IPs that target the non-hardcore/casual gaming community.

E3 2008: Win or Fail?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

E3 has been changing ever since they made that announcement last year that they were drastically going to change the format of the show. Many have been speculating that it was a bad move and it could have repercussions among the audience and industry big wigs alike.

That speculation is turning out into reality. A few companies have bailed out on ESA (Entertainment Software Association), the organization responsible for E3 already and they’re big names. Activision, Viviendi (including Blizzard) and Lucas Arts have all withdrawn their support though Lucas Arts says that they’ll still be attending E3.

Others speculate that this could be due to the flailing US economy. Still it is too early to say anything. ESA has decided to go back to the spacious Los Angeles Convention center. Hopefully, this will bring back the lost glamour and excitement from past E3’s and perhaps we’ll see the comeback of the booth babes.

Super Hero MySpace

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

That’s what DC Universe Online’s newest gimmick is. There hasn’t been any official word from Sony Computer Entertainment or DC Comics regarding the release date of this tantalizingly fresh MMO game, but that is a problem easily remedied thanks to the wonders of social networking.

Introducing MySpace’s newesst member: the DC Universe Online MySpace webpage. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to MySpace, too.

The fun thing about the game’s MySpace is that it does everything that a regular website should be doing at what one can only imagine as a more reasonable price. The blog function serves as the newsreel, while the multimedia services (video, audio and whatnot) lets viewers check out the most recent developments.

There’s a whole host of other interactive elements in the DC Universe MySpace, and since MySpace already IS a networking site, that pretty much takes care of creating a community.
