Nvidia: Hollywood can’t compete

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

According to some people at Nvidia, it may be too much for Hollywood to actually do real-time ray tracing. So far Cars, by Walt Disney, was the only movie that was able to use Ray tracing capabilities in full. Mental ray is one of the best ways of doing ray tracing and Nvidia owns it, but at this point no one from Hollywood even considers this as a real alternative.

They can still get away with the traditional ways of rasterization and light approximation. Photons and Ray casting and something for the distant future.

So this means games that utilize this technology will still be a little ways off as you can see the guy in the video above had to hook up 3 PS3s to do the real time rendering. Take note that the video has nothing to do with Nvidia as I just needed to pull off a video that roughly gives you an idea as to what Ray Tracing is.

W-h J: I fear that this time, the game might have played a part.

Clarifications:

Sumodownload has always been on the skeptical side when it comes to game related murders. However, after reading the reports from a reliable gaming blog, as to my judgment at least, this story is not as crystal clear as before where it’s easy to draw the line between fact and opinion: not when the means, medium and motive of the crime are all present in the game.

Sony is pulling out all the stops for LittleBigPlanet. They’re offering a free "Kratos Sackboy" for North American Pre-orders. A "Nariko Sackboy", from Heavenly Sword, will also be included.

Now all that’s left is a real sackboy plushie, then I’m totally SOLD!

Wii being used in the gym?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Genius (but limited) yes, practical no.

Apparently, “Gravity Gym” in Manhattan charges gym goers a whopping $110 per session when using their Gym’s ”party gaming animal” exercise machine.  The Wii.

With a price like that, an intelligent guess comes to mind that “it might be because of a service offered other than just playing the game.” However, aside from getting professional help from their trainers that you can get from other gyms by paying $40, there’s nothing else offered in the table.

W-h J: Unless of course your trainer is a cute babe wearing miniature skirts.  I’d pay $200 to have them instruct me on my workout. :P
